This month’s Spirit Garage read is “You Won’t Believe What Happened to Lacey” by Amber Ruffins and Lacey Lamar, as suggested by our last “Different Lens” speaker, Rev. Angela Khabeb (who is also the sister of Amber and Lacey. It is a quick read, with all kinds of hard to believe stories about every day racism that Lacey regularly encounters, as a reminder of how common and stupid and ubiquitous racism is. Told with a sense of humor, I can’t say I laughed at the book, but it is a light-hearted way of telling the stories, especially that white people don’t always get.
